A root canal is the extraction of the nerve of the tooth. It is necessary when a tooth is severely damaged from decay or traumas due to fractures or over pressure in the tooth. This happens from the root becoming weak and the tooth being very sensitive.
The Endodontist will extract the nerves and clean the conducts in order to leave the area very clean. After that, the cavity will be filled with a plastic material and special cement in order to seal the tooth conducts.
A fiberglass post is necessary after the root canal to reinforce the tooth. Next, a crown is recommended. In some cases, the natural tooth can be saved after the root canal and filled with resin filling to close the cavity.
